UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s soccer program has announced its 2022 Spring schedule, featuring five exhibition matches ranging from Feb. 26-April 15.
First, the Nittany Lions will host Pittsburgh in a single exhibition at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. The Panthers went 11-7 in the fall and finished ninth in the ACC with a 4-6 league record.
Next, Penn State will travel to Georgetown on Sunday, March 20. The Hoyas posted a 14-2-6 record in 2021, winning the BIG EAST Championship for the fifth time in six years. GU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling 2-1 in overtime to eventual semifinalist Santa Clara.
The Nittany Lions remain on the road to face West Virginia at noon on Saturday, April 2. The Mountaineers went 10-5-5 overall before falling in the Big 12 Championship semifinalist match vs Texas. They had a double overtime draw with the Longhorns but fell in a 4-3 penalty kick shootout.
Finally, the Blue & White close out their spring schedule by hosting Patriot League squads, Lehigh at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 and Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 15.
Lehigh finished 6-10-1 overall, while Bucknell went 11-8-3 overall and went on to win their fifth Patriot League Championship. Bucknell would fall 2-0 to Rutgers in the NCAA first round.
Penn State completed the fall 2021 season with an overall record of 12-8-1, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 27th straight season. The Nittany Lions advanced to the NCAA Sweet-16 for the fifth consecutive season and for the seventh time in eight seasons.
