HARRISON, N.J. — Penn State alumna Ellie Jean signed a one-year contract with a one-year option with the NJ/NY Gotham FC on Monday.
Jean returns to the United States after most recently playing for PSV Eindhoven of the Women’s Eredivisie in the Netherlands. The former Penn Stater will enter her first season in the NWSL after beginning her professional career overseas in Europe.
The 24-year-old defender most recently appeared in 22 Women’s Eredivisie matches and four UEFA Women’s Champions League matches for PSV Eindhoven, one of the largest clubs in the Netherlands.
She joins fellow PSU alumna Ali Krieger (2003-06), who was traded to Gotham FC from the Orlando Pride in December.
A Coventry, Connecticut native, Jean played at Penn State in 2015 and from 2017-19.
She won a national championship with the Nittany Lions as a freshman in 2015 and was a member of two Big Ten Championship teams and three Big Ten Tournament Championship teams.
She is a three-time Academic All-Big 10 honoree and a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Her senior season she was a team captain and earned All-Big Ten status.
She played in 100 career games for the Nittany Lions, tying for sixth all time in program history.
Jean was also frequently featured for the United States Women’s National Team at the U-23, U-20, and U-17 levels.
Gotham FC begins the pre-season on February 1 before kicking off the 2022 season on Saturday, March 19, with group play for the NWSL Challenge Cup.
