Nineteen ACC Players Chosen in MLS SuperDraft


GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Led by six first-round selections, 19 ACC men’s soccer players were selected Tuesday in the 2022 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The ACC’s 19 selections and six first-round picks were the most of any conference.
 
The ACC’s 19 draft picks mark the second most in league history.
 
Duke’s Thor Ulfarsson was the first ACC player off the board Tuesday, going fourth overall to the Houston Dynamo. Ulfarsson, who signed a Generation adidas contract ahead of the SuperDraft, was the 2021 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American. Clemson’s Oskar Ågren (13th, San Jose), Duke’s Ian Murphy (14th, FC Cincinnati) and Notre Dame’s trio of Jack Lynn (18th, Orlando City), Mohamed Omar (23rd, Colorado) and Philip Quinton (25th, Columbus) also were selected in the first round.
 
Six ACC players were selected in the second round, while seven more were taken in the third round.
 
Reigning national champion Clemson led all ACC programs with six draft selections, while three members of the ACC champion Notre Dame program were chosen. Nine ACC programs had at least one draft pick.
