Robert Lewandowski 'expected' Barcelona struggles

Robert Lewandowski says Barcelona’s struggles this season have not surprised him and he knew that he was getting himself in a rebuilding job.

The striker joined Barca from Bayern Munich in the summer and has made a brilliant start on a personal level, scoring 18 goals in just 17 games so far.

Elimination from the group stage of the Champions League has been a stark reminder of the club’s recent decline, though, but Lewandowski has says a sense of perspective is required.

“With everything that Barça has suffered in recent years, you can’t expect everything to change in a month. It needs time and it will surely improve, and it will even be the best again,” Lewandowski told Marca.

“We are evolving. I did not expect to arrive and that everything went well in the first season. I insist that it is a process that requires time and patience. I am in the club that I want and when you feel comfortable and happy, everything is easier. I am in the team where I dreamed of being and I am proud.

“Before coming to Barcelona I was already aware that the first season could be tougher than it surely should be. We are in a reconstruction process that needs time, we have to be more patient.”

Despite Barcelona’s Champions League woes, they are currently just a point off the pace in the La Liga title race.
