NC State Concludes Regular Season at Syracuse


RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team (7-7-4, 2-6-1 ACC) wraps up its regular-season schedule at Syracuse on Thursday.
 
Kickoff for Thursday night’s match is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
 
LAST TIME OUT
NC State allowed a pair of goals within the first 12 minutes of each half in a 4-0 defeat at No. 8 Virginia on Sunday. The Pack fired nine shots in the setback, including three on target. NC State earned three corner kicks, including two in a 7-minute span in the second half, but was unable to push a goal past Virginia goalkeeper Michaela Moran.
 
SERIES HISTORY
After dropping the first two matchups in the series, NC State has won four straight against Syracuse to hold a 4-2 advantage in the series history. Three of those four wins over the Orange have come by three goals, including a 3-0 win in Raleigh this past season. The Pack is 1-1 at Syracuse, coming home with a 6-3 win after a successful trip on Oct. 4, 2018.
 
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse (8-7-2, 1-6-2 ACC) opened the season strong in nonconference play, holding a 7-1 against non-ACC opponents. The Orange notched four multi-goal victories in nonconference action, dropping its only non-ACC matchup to UConn. In ACC play, the Orange is 0-3-2 in its past five matchups, earning draws against then-No. 2 Virginia and Clemson while dropping contests to Boston College, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech. Chelsea Domond paces Syracuse with five goals, five assists and 15 points.
 
TOP 35 IN THE RPI
The ACC is strong, very strong. Despite a pair of defeats this past week, NC State ranks No. 35 in this week’s RPI poll. In fact, NC State is one of eight teams in the ACC inside the top 35 of this week’s RPI poll. Syracuse ranks No. 91 in this week’s poll.
 
COMEBACK PACK
The Comeback Pack. NC State rallied once again on Sept. 29 after going behind first, marking its third comeback win this season. The Wolfpack also has a flair for the dramatic, scoring in the final 15 minutes of games five times. NC State is undefeated (4-0-1) in games it nets a goal in the final 15 minutes.
