Graham Potter dismisses concerns over Raheem Sterling's goal struggles

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has stressed that he is not concerned by Raheem Sterling’s struggles in front of goal and has backed the summer signing to rediscover his best form soon.

Sterling has four goals and two assists in 14 appearances since his £47.5m move from Manchester City and is yet to score in the Premier League under Potter, with his last goal coming in the new boss’ first game in charge against Red Bull Salzburg.

In his six appearances since, Sterling has failed to find the back of the net, but Potter was adamant that the winger’s struggles are more to do with Chelsea‘s attacking issues as a whole.

“It’s not something we have to zoom in to one person,” Potter said. “As a team, we can do better, and if we do better as a team, then individuals will benefit from that, so that’s where the work is.”

Under Potter, Sterling has been deployed in a whole host of different positions. He began the Salzburg game as a left wing-back and has spent time in the same role on the right following the knee injury to usual starter Reece James.

“He’s got the flexibility, ability and quality to play in several positions,” Potter added in defence of his tactical decisions. “It’s not straightforward with losing the players we have [to injury].

“So you’re constantly trying to find the right balance, and find the right solutions. But he can help us in a number of positions.”
