Canada Soccer has announced the cancelation of the Men’s National Team friendly fixture against Iran this summer.
The CanMNT were slated to host Iran at BC Place, Vancouver, on June 5 as part of their warm-up for the 2022 World Cup. No reason has yet been given for the cancelation with additional details for ticket purchases to be revealed at a later date.
Despite the cancelation, Canada still have a very busy summer ahead with Concacaf Nations League fixtures against Curacao and Honduras. Les Rouges will also begin to ramp up their preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Qualifying for the tournament for the first time since 1986 and just the second time ever, John Herdman’s side have been drawn into Group F alongside Belgium, Croatia, and Morocco. Their campaign starts against Belgium at Al Rayyan Stadium on November 23.
Despite their minnow status at the World Cup level, Canada will be a threat after finishing top of the Concacaf qualifying table ahead of the USMNT and Mexico with just two defeats and 28 points from 14 games. The likes of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Lille’s Jonathan David are among the most exciting players in Europe right now.
