Early Goal Drops Gamecocks at Old Dominion – University of South Carolina Athletics

NORFOLK, Va. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team dropped its road match at Old Dominion 1-0 Wednesday night (Oct. 19). The loss puts the Gamecocks at 5-5-3 on the season and 1-2-2 in Sun Belt play, while the Monarchs move to 6-4-2 and 3-1-1 on the year.

For the match, both teams finished with 10 shots, while Carolina tallied six shots on goal and ODU had five. The Gamecocks also had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. South Carolina goalkeeper Ben Alexander finished with four saves. Ethan Dekel Daks led the way with a game-high three shots on goal.

Old Dominion came out on the offensive attack, putting a pair of shots up in the first minute of play. The lone goal of the match would come in the 5th minute, on a shot from the right side of the box.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Dekel Daks nearly tied the match on his shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Carolina would put two more shots on goal the rest of the way, but could not find the equalizer.

South Carolina returns to Stone Stadium when it hosts James Madison October 23 at 3 p.m.
