COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland (2-8-5, 1-7-0) wrapped up their 2022 home schedule with a 2-1 loss against Minnesota (7-7-2, 3-4-1).

The Terps battled, achieving a number of athletic offensive breakaways and skillful defensive takeaways throughout the match.

This was the final home game for six-year veterans Malikae Dayes, Mikalaya Dayes, and Alyssa Poarch. Poarch finished her Ludwig Field career with a bang, making an impressive, on-the-run score.

Breaking Down the Action

  • Maryland equalized in the 28th minute with an athletic goal by Alyssa Poarch. Julie Lynch’s on-target boot set up the sprinting Poarch’s perfectly-placed score.
  • The Gophers’ Gabbie Cesarone snuck one in during the final minute of the first half, sending the score to 2-1.
  • Goalkeeper Madeline Smith put her body on the line for a decisive block against a shot by Minnesota’s Abi Frandsen in the 51st minute.
  • Maryland applied offensive pressure with speedy fast-breaks by Mikayla Dayes, Sofi Vinas, and Poarch.
