No. 4 Alabama Soccer Dominates LSU On Road

BATON ROUGE, Ala. – The No. 4-ranked Alabama soccer team (13-1-1, 6-0-0 SEC) cruised to victory Sunday, defeating the LSU Tigers (8-3-3, 3-2-1 SEC) by a score of 5-0 inside LSU Soccer Stadium. Five different players scored in the Tide’s win with Kate Henderson, Gianna Paul, Felicia Knox, Reyna Reyes and Riley Mattingly Parker all finding the back of the net.

“I thought it was a great game today. We started off a little slow. It took us 10-15 minutes to play our way into the game, but once we did, I thought it was one of our most complete performances. They are not an easy team to shut out. They have a lot of weapons, and to score five goals against any team in our league is not easy. I actually thought we were a bit unfortunate to not get a few more.”

How It Happened 

• Kate Henderson challenged a pass back to the Tiger’s goalkeeper, sliding to make contact to put the ball in the back of the net in the 20^th minute
• Gianna Paul netted the Tide’s second goal in the 31^st minute, after her shot hit the post, the UA freshman fired the rebound shot back at goal with her first touch to move Alabama ahead 2-0
• In the 52^nd minute, Felicia Knox took advantage of a free kick outside the box, driving the ball low towards the far post to give the Tide its third goal
• A foul inside the box moved UA ahead by four as Reyna Reyes converted a penalty kick in the 67^th minute
• The Tide’s final goal of the game came off a turnover deep in LSU territory, when Riley Mattingly Parker pressured a goal kick, stealing the ball and bending a shot into the upper corner

Game Notes 

• With the win, McKinley Crone set the record for most victories by an Alabama goalkeeper with 31 and tying the single-season record with her 13^th win in goal this season
• The match also marked Crone’s sixth shutout this season and the eighth clean sheet for the Tide
• Crone made four saves in the game to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard
• Riley Mattingly Parker netted her 11^th goal this year, while Reyna Reyes tallied her sixth, Felicia Knox and Gianna Paul both tallied their fifth and Kate Henderson tallied her fourth
• Ashlynn Serepca has appeared in a 100 collegiate soccer games, leading the nation in career appearances
• Alabama outshot the Tigers 24-10 and 12-4 in shots on goal
