Pack Falls 1-0 to Virginia Tech

RALEIGH – The No. 19 NC State women’s soccer team dropped its first ACC match of the season in a 1-0 loss to Virginia Tech Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
 
NC State (6-2-3, 1-1-0 ACC) starting goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta set a career high with nine saves, making six saves in the opening half to keep the game scoreless at the half.
 
Virginia Tech (7-2-1, 1-1-0) forward Taylor Price netted the game-winner in the 63rd minute, finishing off a cross at the near post from Natalie Mitchell.
 
The Wolfpack increased its offensive pressure in the second half, notching six shots and four corner kicks in the final 45 minutes.
 
Jameese Joseph logged NC State’s best attempt of the second half with just two minutes remaining, collecting a bouncing ball at the top of the box from a corner kick before firing a shot just high and right of the goal. Joseph paced the Pack with four shots, firing NC State’s final attempt of the night on target from outside the box.
 
Echezarreta made three of her six saves from the first half in the opening 12 minutes. One of her top saves of the night came in the 22nd minute when she denied Mitchell from inside the box, pushing her shot over the crossbar to keep it scoreless.
 
UP NEXT
NC State will conclude its four-game home stand Sunday against No. 5 Duke. Sunday’s kickoff at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on ACC Network.
