Chelsea owner Boehly ‘advocated’ move for Arsenal summer signing, ‘scarred’ Tuchel said no

Reported Chelsea target Gabriel Jesus during a pre-season friendly

Todd Boehly was keen to bring Gabriel Jesus to Chelsea this summer, however, Thomas Tuchel had his reservations, according to The Athletic.

The Blues were one of many clubs linked with the Brazilian forward as he sought a move away from Manchester City.

A low-key win for Arsenal but Marquinhos offers glimpse of his class

Arsenal won the battle for his signature after Tottenham, Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid had all expressed an interest.

Jesus joins the Gunners with an excellent reputation having scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for the Citizens.

The 25-year-old helped City win four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups and one FA Cup in his five-and-a-half-year spell in Manchester.

Jesus has started very well at the Emirates, scoring three and assisting three in his opening six appearances for the north Londoners.

On Wednesday, The Athletic correspondent David Ornstein explained where it went wrong for the former Paris Saint-Germain boss, citing his strained relationship with Boehly and much more.

And in an article on The Athletic on Thursday, it is mentioned that Boehly was keen on bringing Jesus to Stamford Bridge.

However, Tuchel did not want to bring a pure No. 9 to the club in the summer window.

It is mentioned that the German may have been ‘scarred’ from his experience of managing Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku joined Chelsea for a club-record fee just short of £100m in 2021 but massively flopped last term.

As you know already, Jesus joined Arsenal.

And as you surely know already, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Chelsea after Tuchel reversed his stance on signing a new striker.

He perhaps changed his mind after Timo Werner was sold to RB Leipzig and Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on loan.

It is noted that Jesus was ‘very keen’ on moving to Stamford Bridge. What could have been!

Numerous players stayed at Chelsea who were linked with a move away in the summer, such…
