Nagelsmann on Bayern Draw: 'Our Best Game of Season So Far'

Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was “annoyed” after failing to claim all three points following an inspired display from Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

Nagelsmann claimed the performance was Bayern’s best of the season, despite failing to claim the win and having had a record start to the new Bundesliga campaign.

Sommer was in inspired form, setting a Bundesliga record with 19 saves in a single match to keep Bayern at bay.

After Sadio Mane had a first-half goal disallowed for offside, Marcus Thuram had put Gladbach into the lead in the 43rd minute with their first shot.

Sommer was in sensational form, with Bayern having 33 shots including 20 on target, with Leroy Sane levelling from Jamaal Musiala’s cutback in the 83rd minute.

Bayern also dominated possession, 69-31 per cent, with 611-286 passes and 14 corners yet dropped points for the first time this Bundesliga campaign.

“I was annoyed because we played very well,” Nagelsmann said.

“I can’t blame the team, it’s just that we didn’t take our chances well.

“We played very well, had good control. We should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up by the 40th minute and then we made a mistake.

“Still, it was our best game of the season so far.”

Gladbach boss Daniel Farke was complimentary towards Bayern, labeling them “irrepressible”.

“It was difficult for us. We fought with passion and will to get a point,” he said.

“We actually wanted to keep the ball a lot. In the first half, we were a bit sloppy. In the second half, Bayern were irrepressible. Huge compliments to the team.”
