Jurgen Klopp admits he was “wrong” on the need for midfield reinforcements, with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong emerging as a top target for Liverpool.

Fingers are being pointed at Klopp’s midfield following the club’s torrid start to the season.

Defeat at Manchester United on Monday leaves the Reds in search of their first victory in the Premier League this term.

James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott started at Old Trafford with Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out injured.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes is ‘possibly too old’ at the ripe age of 28 to be considered by Klopp, meanwhile, Lyon’s Houssem Aouar used to be a top target for Liverpool, but it would be a surprise to see him join the Merseyside club.

90min have thrown RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer and Wolves playmaker Ruben Neves into the mix.

Laimer has entered the final 12 months of his contract and is reportedly hoping to join Bayern Munich this month or as a free agent next summer.
