July 22, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New England Revolution News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The New England Revolution (6-7-7; 25 pts.) will travel to Ohio to visit the Columbus Crew (7-5-8; 29 pts.) on Saturday night at Lower.com Field. Saturday’s match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and airs on WSBK-TV38, myRITV (Rhode Island), and 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action from Ohio, with Portuguese commentary on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.

The Revolution travel to Lower.com Field for the second time as they look to extend a four-game unbeaten run against the Crew (1-0-3). The two MLS original clubs battled to a 2-2 draw in the stadium’s opening match on July 3, 2021. The teams played to the same scoreline in their most recent meeting on May 7 in Foxborough. Columbus, currently sixth in the Eastern Conference while the Revolution sit four points back in 10th place, has gone eight games without a loss. Colombian forward Cucho Hernández joined the team in June and has sparked the Crew with four goals in his first three MLS games.

The Revolution are looking to return to the win column after falling to the first-place Philadelphia Union, 2-1, in their most recent match last Saturday. Forward Gustavo Bou extended his torrid run of form with the opening goal of the match, his seventh tally in eight games. Brandon Bye and Carles Gil combined to set up Bou’s goal, which lifted Gil into sole possession of the MLS lead with 11 assists this season. Gil, a 2022 MLS All-Star selection and reigning MLS MVP, has three assists in the last two games.

In addition to their defensive duties, Bye and fellow outside back DeJuan Jones have made steady contributions in the attacking third with five assists each in 202, marking a career high for both players. One more assist by either Bye or Jones would match New England’s single-season record for assists by a defender.

Saturday’s match marks the first opportunity for the Revolution’s newest Designated Player Giacomo Vrioni, a 23-year-old forward purchased from Juventus FC earlier this month, to make his Revolution and MLS debut. The left-footed striker was the co-leading scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga while on loan with WSG Tirol in 2021-22. Vrioni arrived in Boston last week and began training with the Revolution on Tuesday.
