Declan Rice ‘on Boehly agenda’ as Chelsea to ‘contact West Ham with fresh approach’ this summer

Man Utd target Rice

A move for West Ham star Declan Rice is reportedly “on the agenda” for Todd Boehly this summer as part of big plans to revamp the Chelsea squad.

Thomas Tuchel spoke at the end of last season about the need to “rebuild” Chelsea this summer, and he appears set to be granted that wish.

New owner Boehly has reportedly ‘promised up to six summer signings’ on a budget of £200m.

The German head coach has held talks with Boehly and recruitment staff to finalise Chelsea’s plans for the summer transfer window.

A senior source told The Telegraph: “The key is to basically work with Tuchel to come up with the best players that are available. We really want to make sure we have a good defence. We’ve got depth in midfield. We’re not desperate for an out-and-out striker.

“Fortunately, there’s reasonable opportunities in the market right now in order to satisfy the fans’ desire to be competitive. I think it’s a combination of moves and there’s five or six that we’re going to look to make.”

The report adds that Boehly has set Tuchel the minimum expectation of a top-four finish in 2022/23 as Chelsea look to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.

And it’s claimed Declan Rice, who came up through the Chelsea academy before switching to West Ham, could be one of those six signings.

That’s according to journalist Dean Jones via Give Me Sport, who said: “A move for Declan Rice is on the agenda at Chelsea as part of the fast-moving new era of Todd Boehly. Early indications from sources suggest the Blues could even contact West Ham officials in the coming weeks with a fresh approach.”

But the England international will cost a pretty penny, with David Moyes previously claiming he’s worth £150m.

And the defence is surely the priority for Tuchel and Boehly, following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
