Man Utd told to forget signing Erling Haaland; Leeds target Brazilian; Villa home in on England starlet

Erling Haaland Dortmund April 2022

Man Utd are out of the Erling Haaland race, while Leeds have been watching a Brazilian and Aston Villa are lining up a move for an England Under-21 international, all in paper talk.

MAN UTD OUT OF HAALAND RACE

Manchester United will not be signing Erling Haaland this summer.

That is the verdict from ESPN, who claim that sources have told them that United could not match the striker’s ambitions on the pitch.

The Old Trafford club are hunting for a new No 9 this summer, Ralf Rangnick’s has previously admitted as much. And that makes sense with Edinson Cavani set to leave on a free and the futures of Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo far from secure.

Borussia Dortmund’s prolific Norway striker will not be pursued though.

United “indicated to Haaland and his representatives earlier this season they would be willing to match any financial offer he received from another club”. But they were told that Haaland was considering the “sporting project” and not just where he could earn the most money.

Manchester City and Real Madrid “lead the race” to land the player if he decided to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Haaland was understood to have a buyout in his deal this summer. But a report by Goal has claimed that there is no official €75m release clause in Haaland’s contract.

New information suggests the player instead has a gentlemen’s agreement with Dortmund.
