The CEO of Sassuolo hinted at an overseas move after confirming Arsenal striker target Gianluca Scamacca has “received many offers” from England.
The Gunners are almost certain to be on the hunt for new additions in their final third this summer. Arsenal tried to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Dusan Vlahovic in January. Aubameyang did depart for Barcelona, but Vlahovic would go on to join Juventus.
That left just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as Mikel Arteta’s recognised strikers. However, that pair will both become free agents at season’s end.
As such, at least one new centre-forward is expected to be signed and all manner of names have already drawn links.
Alexander Isak, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen and Gianluca Scamacca have all been mentioned by one outlet or another.
Of that quintet, arguably the easiest deal to pull off would be Scamacca.
The imposing Italian who stands at 6ft 5in tall is enjoying a breakthrough season at Sassuolo.
He has bagged 13 goals in Serie A this season and is beginning to attract attention from bigger clubs.
Indeed, Arsenal were reported to have ‘knocked on’ Sassuolo’s door regarding a potential summer transfer in late-March.
That came amid a report detailing Inter Milan’s interest. The reigning Italian champions reportedly have an agreement over personal terms in place with the centre-forward, though financing the £34m Sassuolo want will be tricky.
