EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Wisconsin women’s soccer team fell to Michigan State, 2-0, in its final road contest of the 2024 season.
How it Happened
First Half
Michigan State came out with an attacking mentality, earning a shot on goal in the 3rd minute. They followed up with a goal in the 10th minute to take the early lead.
After the goal, Wisconsin reset and began to attack, putting two shots on the net within the 12th minute.
Michigan State attempted another goal midway through the half. It was waived off due to a Spartan being offside, keeping the score 1-0.
Aryssa Mahrt had three shots, all on target, to finish the half.
Second Half
Right off the bat, Drew Stover made her fifth save of the match in the 46th minute.
The Badgers finally earned their first corner of the game in the 50th minute.
The Spartans dumped another in the net in the 58th minute, but again was called offside.
Riley Philbin fired a shot across the box in the 65th minute to draw another corner.
In the 67th minute, the Spartans found a gap in the Badgers’ back line, scoring again.
Although Wisconsin was trailing, the team kept putting shots up. The Badgers finished with the shots-on-goal advantage, 10-9.
Stover finished the game with a career-high shots faced (17) and saves (7).
