Manchester United have been advised to seal the transfer of Xavi Simons, with former Red Devils striker Louis Saha clearly a big fan of the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who is currently on loan at RB Leipzig.
Simons has impressed during his time on loan at Leipzig, while he also really caught the eye in a stint with PSV Eindhoven, though he’s somewhat surprisingly struggled to establish himself as a regular for PSG.
That could surely mean there’ll be an opportunity for clubs like Man Utd to try signing Simons next year as it’s perhaps hard to imagine he’ll stay at Leipzig for a third loan spell, or move there permanently, while it also looks like being a long way back for him at PSG.
Saha feels Simons can succeed where Jadon Sancho failed at Old Trafford, highlighting the Netherlands international as someone who looks like he could be a good tactical fit for the club, whilst adding qualities like creativity and unpredictability.
Sancho is undoubtedly one of United’s most disappointing signings of recent times, so if United can find a superior version that could be the answer to a lot of their problems that they’d hoped to solve by bringing in Sancho in the first place.
Xavi Simons looks ideal for United, says Saha
“I think Manchester United should target Xavi Simons, I really like him and he’s the sort of player that could have a huge impact at the club,” Saha told Casino Hawks, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“There aren’t many players in that bracket, Dani Olmo at Barcelona is another one. I definitely think Simons has the capacity to be a success if he did end up at United.
“He’s very hard to defend against because he’s always on the move, United still need legs in midfield and more creativity and unpredictability.
“Jadon Sancho is a player that didn’t fit it tactically, but I don’t think that will be the case with Simons, he is confident in his quality and it looks like he has the character to succeed.”
