Bodmer & Gil Named B1G Women's Soccer Players of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer has been named the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week and redshirt freshman Gabriela Gil has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for their performances during the week ending Sept. 29.

Rutgers now has four conference Players of the Week over the past two periods, and two consecutive Freshmen of the Week. It is Gil’s first weekly Big Ten honor, and Bodmer’s second after she won a Freshman of the Week in 2023. It is her first Goalkeeper of the Week honor. The Scarlet Knights are unbeaten over their last eight matches, which included seven shutouts.

Olivia Bodmer made four saves in a 1-0 shutout at Michigan to record Rutgers’ seventh consecutive clean sheet victory. She then made three saves in a 1-1 draw at No. 1 Michigan State, matching the program’s best result against the nation’s No. 1 team. Bodmer ranks fourth in the NCAA and tops in the Big Ten with a 0.27 goals-against average, seventh in the country and tops in the Big Ten with a .906 save percentage, and sixth nationally and second in the Big Ten with seven solo shutouts.

Rutgers’ last Goalkeeper of the Week was Meagan McClelland (Oct. 26, 2021).

Gil converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to equalize and eventually earn a 1-1 draw on the road at No. 1 Michigan State. Gil played all 180 minutes last week in the 1-0 win at Michigan and draw at No. 1 Michigan State. Her defense helped Rutgers maintain its 0.27 goals-against average, which ranks third in the NCAA and first in the Big Ten. She also helped the defense hold Michigan and No. 1 Michigan State to four shots on goal apiece, stretching the Scarlet Knights’ streak to holding opponents to four or less shots on target in all 11 matches this season.

Bodmer, Gil and the Scarlet Knights are back in action on the road at No. 19 Penn State on Fri., Oct. 4 at 5 p.m.
