CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a stellar week at goalkeeper, Lauren Hargrove has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Hargrove was crucial in the Hokies’ 2-0 start to ACC play – the best start in ACC play since 2009. Over two games, she tallied 13 saves with a .929 save percentage and only allowed one goal.

She posted a then-season high six saves and allowed just one goal in Tech’s 2-1 win over Clemson. It’s the first win over Clemson since 2014 and the first road win for the Tigers since 2012.

Hargrove continued ACC action on Sunday with a 1-0 shutout win against Syracuse. The Richmond, Va., native posted her sixth clean sheet of the season and recorded a season-high seven saves against the Orange.

She is the second Hokie to be named ACC Defensive Player of the Week this season as Allie George also earned the honor on Sept. 3.

The Hokies return to action at Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
