Rogers’ First Goal As A Terp Leads Maryland Past Brown, 2-1

San Diego State

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland men’s soccer defeated Brown 2-1 at Ludwig Field on Sept. 6. Leon Koehl and Max Rogers scored for the Terps (2-1-2) in the match.

Rogers, a Yale graduate transfer forward, scored the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute. It was his first career goal as a Terp.

Koehl, a sophomore midfielder, scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the ninth minute. The score gave him back-to-back games with a penalty kick goal after scoring one against Virginia on Sept 2. He became the first Terp to score multiple penalty kick goals in a season since Malcolm Johnston, who was 4-for-5 on PKs in 2022.

The Terps dominated possession in the first half, leading in shots (9-3), shots on goal (4-2), and corner kicks (3-1). Led by defenders Luca Costabile, Chris Steinleitner, William Kulvik and Alex Nitzl, the Bears could not manufacture many scoring opportunities.

Brown (1-1) found the equalizer in the 78th minute after closing the time of possession gap. However, Rogers put the game away with his timely score.

Freshman goalkeeper Laurin Mack finished the contest with a career-high four saves. Through five games, he has collected 13 saves.
