WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – No. 21 Virginia Tech battled to a 1-1 draw at Monmouth on Sunday at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.
Kendall DiMillio scored her first career goal in the contest – the eighth different Hokie to score this season. With the tie, Virginia Tech (3-0-1) remains unbeaten through four contests to start the season.
How it Happened
Tech had several opportunities in the opening minutes, highlighted by a shot apiece from Natalie Mitchell and Taylor Price to force two Hawk saves. However, a Monmouth counter-attack in the eighth minute gave the Hawks a 1-0 advantage early in the contest.
Despite trailing 1-0, the Hokies continued to create chances and led 6-3 in shots through the first frame. Only 18 seconds into the second half, two great passes from Anna Weir and Mitchell set up Kendall DiMillio , who scored from just inside the 18-yard box to tie the game.

The remainder of the game was a back-and-forth fight, but the Hokies were unable to find the back of the net one more time and came away with the 1-1 draw.
It’s the first goal the Hokies have allowed through the first four matches of the season.
With DiMillio’s first career goal, she became the eighth Hokie to score this season. All eight Hokie goals have come from different scorers.
