HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Hokies earned their first road win of the season as they defeated James Madison, 2-0, on Sunday night at Sentara Park.

Maysen Nelson scored her first career goal – the sixth Hokie to record a goal through two matches this season. Virginia Tech has had six different student-athletes score a goal this year.

Additionally, Tech has now opened the season with back-to-back shutouts.

How It Happened
The Hokies set the tone early and dominated the possession in the opening minutes. Just nine minutes into the contest, a stellar sliding tackle from Taylor Price freed up the ball for Samantha DeGuzman to score right in front of the net. It’s the first career game-winning goal for DeGuzman.

Tech continued momentum and struck again in the 31st minute. After the Dukes saved a shot from Sarah Rosenbaum, Maysen Nelson launched the rebound into the top shelf for her first career goal. The Hokies led 2-0 at half and never looked back.

The Hokies maintained control throughout the second half and outshot the Dukes 16-5 in total. Tech has now limited opponents in back-to-back matches to five shots or less.
