The summer transfer window is in full swing, with one player that West Ham have already been unable to secure of interest elsewhere.
The Hammers have been busy this summer, unlike 12 months ago when it took until the week of the new season before they signed their first new player.
Of course, technical director, Tim Steidten, did manage to pull a few rabbits out of the hat in the end with his signings of James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez, Mo Kudus and Dinos Mavropanos.
They have, it seems, lost out on bringing former Barcelona centre-back, Jean-Clair Todibo, to the London Stadium.
The East Londoners have had a deal turned down by the French international’s club, Nice, and now it appears that Todibo could be off to Italy.
“It’s true that Jean-Clair Todibo is interested in the Juventus project yes, but OGC Nice want around €45m and Juve have only discussed a loan with buy clause,” Fabrizio Romano said to CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing.
“That’s not something easy for Nice to accept at this stage.
“Nice rejected €35m from West Ham, but for Juventus to sign him it will also depend on outgoings like Hujisen, who could leave the club.’
Given that Nice still seem to be minded not to accept Juve’s opening gambit, there remains a small chance that the Irons could go back in and pay whatever would be acceptable to the Ligue Un outfit, given that it was previously understood that the player was open to West Ham’s overtures.
With plenty of time left before the window shuts for another few months, everything remains open, however, from Todibo’s point of view, he will surely want his future sorted sooner rather than later.
Pre-season has already started for many clubs across Europe, and he won’t want to be lagging behind in terms of his fitness, wherever he ends up at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
