Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks had a challenging match against Sacramento Republic FC with a final score of 2-0.
The game had a quick start with an early goal in the fifth minute, from Sacramento Republic FC player Trevor Amann inside the 18 with an assist from Russell Cicerone. As the game went on Sacramento Republic FC scored in the 26′, by Russell Cicerone assisted by Nicholas Ross.
Going into the second half the Switchbacks made some changes in the lineup adding Koa Santos, Quenzi Huerman, and Tyreek Magee, with James Musa, Stevie Echevarria, and Jairo Henriquez leaving. With this new change, the Switchbacks brought more of an attacking battle creating nine shots in total with two shots on target. On the defensive side, Matt Mahoney attempted 106 passes in this game, giving him the highest total for the Switchbacks this season. Even with the Switchbacks opening more chances on target, Sacramento Republic kept a strong defense keeping the score stagnant at 2-0.
The Switchbacks head on the road to Phoenix on Saturday, April 13th. Then the boys return to Weidner Field on April 20th to go head to head against Indy Eleven, for the Switchbacks 10th season celebration night! For tickets to that match, and all others, head HERE.

On his overall thoughts:
“Disappointed, I think the players did a lot over the past two weeks, and we just didn’t show what we put in the last two weeks. It’s sickening, it’s really, really disappointing, it’s not anger or frustration, it’s just a disappointment right now.”
What are your thoughts about the rotation on the backline from tonight’s match?
“It’s not defending it’s moving. That’s been an Achilles heel. That’s been something we’ve applied for the last number of weeks. Then when we get into game time, and when it’s show time and we don’t defend, we just don’t do basic defending.”
Quenzi Huerman:
What could the team have done to clean things up?
“I think we got to put our bodies on the line and get a goal within four minutes. We spoke before the game about being ready from the start, and obviously, it wasn’t the case so we gotta get back to work, and do a whole lot better. We aren’t at the level right now.
