FRESNO, CA – In a highly anticipated home opener under the leadership of Head Coach Jermaine Jones, Central Valley Fuego FC faced off against Union Omaha, but unfortunately, the night ended in a 2-1 loss. Despite the setback, the match was filled with notable performances and insights.
Despite their efforts, Central Valley Fuego FC couldn’t secure the win, but there were some standout moments throughout the game. J. Ramos showcased his playmaking abilities by attempting 61 passes, the highest total for a Fuego player in the USL League One this season. Additionally, J. Carrera’s assist during this game marked his first of the season, reaffirming his status as a key contributor to the team’s offensive efforts.
The lone goal for Central Valley Fuego FC came from Shavon John-Brown, with an assist from J. Carrera. Despite their best efforts, this goal wasn’t enough to equalize against Union Omaha.
Reflecting on the match, Shavon John-Brown remarked, “I think it was a good game. First game at home, fans behind us. We got to start with the intensity we finished with. If we could start like that, we can jump on the front foot, take the lead first, and then have them chasing instead of trying to chase them before the timer runs out.”
Goalkeeper Carlos Avilez also shared his thoughts, stating, “It’s a tough one. Off a good win in the previous game, we knew Omaha was going to come out strong. The boys worked hard and kept fighting, unfortunately, we couldn’t get the second goal, but we’re not going to let them down. We’re going to keep pushing and preparing for the Open Cup match that’s coming.”
Coach Jermaine Jones emphasized the importance of avoiding mistakes, saying, “If you want to be on top of the table, you cannot commit silly mistakes.”
In response to a question from the press about what he’d like the fans to know, Jones stated, “Stay, trust the process we are building. We are still not at 100%. We are waiting for at least four guys, it’s just a clinch and a little bit of what they are seeing now we are working on and getting back.”
While the outcome of the home opener may not have been as desired, Central Valley Fuego FC remains determined to improve and continue pushing forward under the guidance of Coach Jermaine Jones.
