February 7, 2024 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce Andrew “Drew” Romig on a one-year contract with an option for 2025, pending league and federation approval. The 25-year-old shot stopper rejoins the Tormenta FC family following two seasons in the USL Championship with Memphis 901 FC.
During his time in the Bluff City with Memphis 901 FC, he made 24 starts and held a 10-7-7 (W-D-L) record between the sticks. He kept six shutouts for the club and held a 53% save percentage.
“I am excited and honored to have signed with such a successful organization. I’m looking forward to seeing this group develop both on and off the field this season. Tormenta Nation deserves another championship, and I believe the coaching staff and players are well equipped to achieve this goal. I hope to bring a competitive edge to the group; as we begin our campaign in 2024. I am beyond thankful to call Statesboro home for this coming season!” Romig said.
During the summer of 2021, Romig played in the USL League Two with Tormenta FC 2. He started in 15 matches and held a 12-1-2 record keeping seven shutouts. While with Tormenta, Romig was a part of the USL League Two National Team of the Year and USL League Two Southern Conference Team of the Year. Romig was in net when Tormenta FC 2 were Southern Conference Champions and USL League Two semi-finalists.
Romig is a graduate of Belmont University where he played a combined 28 matches during the 2020 and 2021 season. In matches he started, Romig held an 18-2-8 record recording 13 shutouts with an 80% save percentage.
While a member of the Bruins men’s soccer team, earned the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week award three times and the SoCon Player of the Month award twice during the 2021 season. Romig was also was a member of the SoCon All-Tournament Team twice and NCAA D1 Men’s South All-Region First team.
Romig transferred to Belmont University from the University of North Carolina where he played from 2016 to 2019. He made three starts for the Tarheels and was a part of the 2016 and 2017 ACC Championship winning team.
Romig grew up playing in the Richmond Kickers Academy and Richmond United Academy. From 2014 to 2015, he was a member of the Kickers USL League One team. Romig was also a member of the United States U14, U15, and U17 national teams.
