Wayne Rooney’s DC United closing in on a loan deal to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien with talks ongoing amid interest from other MLS teams
DC United are closing in on bringing in Lewis O’Brien from Premier League team Nottingham Forest on a loan deal.
The 24-year-old midfielder saw a deadline-day move to English tier 2 side Blackburn Rovers fail to materialize in January.
But Wayne Rooney‘s MLS franchise are the frontrunners to sign the central midfielder.
Other MLS teams have shown interest in O’Brien but DC may include a break clause where he can return to Forest in the summer to find another side.
Talks between the two clubs are ongoing as terms of the move are worked out.

Rooney is continuing his rebuild at the club after DC finished last in the Eastern Conference with just seven wins in 34 matches.
The team’s 2023 season got off to a fantastic, albeit dramatic start as Ted Ku-DiPietro scored an injury-time winner to seal a 3-2 win over Toronto in their opening game, after Christian Benteke had equalized in the 90th minute.
