Pioli Admits Struggling Milan's Goals Revised: 'Top Four is Our Scudetto'

Pioli Admits Struggling Milan's Goals Revised: 'Top Four is Our Scudetto'

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli concedes his side’s goals for the 2022-23 Serie A season have been revised following their poor 5-2 home loss to Sassuolo on Sunday.

Milan were humbled at the San Siro by 16th-placed Sassuolo, marking a new loan for the Italian champions who are winless in their past four league games.

The Rossoneri drops to fifth due to the defeat, with Pioli conceding that qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a top-four finish was now their main goal.

“I feel disappointment, but we don’t get far with disappointment,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“Recent performances show we are struggling, this must push me to understand what situations need to be improved and dealt with in a different way.

“Our Scudetto this season will be securing a Champions League place, that is the objective.”

Milan’s drop-off after last season’s surprise Scudetto has been stark, leading to claims of a lack of hunger from within.

“It’s too easy to say that, but it really isn’t the case,” Pioli said.

“Do you think I don’t tell them how things are? We have the right attitude and hunger, but we no longer have the ability to react to setbacks during the match.

“I have always spoken with clarity, both with the individuals and as a collective, but what worked well until three weeks ago isn’t working now. I will make changes.”

Milan’s next league game is against Inter Milan on Sunday.
