January 24, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced today the signing of midfielder Ian Cerro to the club’s 2023 USL Championship roster. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
Cerro makes the jump to the USL Championship level having competed for the past two years in the National Independent Soccer Association. The midfielder signed his first professional contract in the United States with NISA club Chicago House AC in 2021 and appeared in 12 matches and scored three goals for the club.
Last January he then joined Chattanooga FC via free transfer, where he played the 2022 NISA season. The attacking midfielder scored four goals in 25 regular season matches, adding two assists, and also notched one assist in two games in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Overall, Cerro has logged 40 appearances across all American competitions and has netted seven goals while contributing three assists. The dynamic midfielder brings a welcomed attacking option to the Toros’ offense which relies on a fast-paced rhythm on the pitch.
The early stages of Cerro’s career began in Europe, competing at Spanish third tier division club, Real Juvencia between 2015-16. In 2019 he signed his first professional deal, joining Argentinian Primera B division club Cañuelas FC. While at Cañuelas FC he helped the side claim a Primera C league title.
