Roma set new price tag for Tammy Abraham in response to rumours of £50million Arsenal offer

Tammy Abraham of Roma

Roma have reportedly set a new price tag for striker Tammy Abraham after Arsenal drew up a £50million offer.

The England international, who has made 10 appearances for the Three Lions, swapped Chelsea for Roma in the summer. He was sold for £34million, to make room for Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge.

While Lukaku is enduring a tough campaign back in the Premier League, Abraham is in exceptional form.

He’s found the net 24 times in 46 matches so far. That includes Serie A braces against Atalanta, Empoli and Lazio.

The 24-year-old is working well under the guidance of Jose Mourinho and could finish second in the Italian scoring charts. He is unlikely to catch Ciro Immobile, though, as the Lazio skipper is on 26 strikes from 29 games.

Reports suggest Abraham could return to England in the next couple of years. Chelsea have a buy-back clause worth £68m which should activate next summer.

London rivals Arsenal have also set their sights on him. According to the Daily Star, Mikel Arteta’s side are willing to pay £50m for Abraham later this year.

Roma want big money for Tammy Abraham

Given his fantastic achievements in Italy, Roma are reluctant to agree to an exit – and rightly so.

football.london provide an update on the state of play. They claim Roma will demand £68m for Abraham, should Arsenal come in with a bid. As such, they are directly matching the buy-back clause Chelsea have in place.

While this leaves the Gunners £18m short, it is a step in the right direction. Previous sources have suggested it will take an astonishing offer worth £100m to snatch the London-born ace from the Stadio Olimpico.

From now until the end of the season, Abraham will try to carry on impressing his potential suitors around Europe. He is also aiming to prove Chelsea wrong for agreeing to a sale and then bringing Lukaku in.

Roma face a tough task to make the top four, although they are in a good position to finish fifth and qualify for the Europa League.
