Anderson Named First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State soccer’s Maddy Anderson was named First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.

The announcement marks the first Academic All-American status of Anderson’s career and makes her the first Bulldog to earn the recognition from CSC. In November, the Seabrook, Texas, native was one of four State players to be named to the organization’s All-Region team.

Anderson is one of 19 members of the Academic All-America® Division I women’s soccer teams to boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school.

“We’re really proud of the hard work Maddy has put in both on and off the field,” head coach James Armstrong said.

On the field, Anderson started and played in 15 matches for State in the 2022 season. The junior goalkeeper broke the program’s career shutouts record in an upset-win over Arkansas (13). Anderson would go on to secure two more shutouts before ending her season at 15 for her career. Anderson’s nine shutouts during the 2022 campaign also set a new single-season shutouts record for the program.

The Bulldogs are coming off their most historic season in program history after recording their first win in both the SEC and NCAA Tournaments, both in dramatic fashion with the game-winning goals scored in the 99th minute and 87th minute, respectively. State also earned its highest-ever ranking in program history, coming in at No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches’ poll after securing the program’s first 3-0 start in conference play.
