New Mexico United Announces Return of Midfielder/Defender Will Seymore

Year 4: an Open Letter from Peter Trevisani on the 4th Anniversary of the Franchise Announcement

November 8, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)New Mexico United News Release

New Mexico United is excited to announce that midfielder/defender Will Seymore will return to the club for the 2023 USL Championship season. Seymore joined United before the 2023 season, and was one of the club’s most consistent and stout defensive players all year long. 2023 will be his second season on the multi-year contract that he signed in 2022.

In 2022, Seymore was among the club leaders in interceptions (1st – 56), clearances (2nd – 90), blocks (2nd – 14), duels (2nd – 281), duels won (2nd – 159), aerial duels (2nd – 84), and aerial duels won (2nd – 55). His poise under pressure was a massive contribution to a New Mexico United back line that finished with the third-best defensive record in the USL Championship Western Conference, and had a club-record eight clean sheets on the season.

Seymore was born in Colorado Springs and spent his youth career with Colchester United and Cambridge United academies in England. He signed with Soham Town Rangers before playing college ball at Oregon State. As a four-year starter with the Beavers, he earned all-conference honors and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer top 100 freshman list.

Seymore was drafted in the MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas and played a few seasons with Reno 1868 FC before making his way to Sligo Rover of the Irish Premier Division. There he made 49 appearances across league and domestic cup fixtures, and helped lead the club to 2020 UEFA Europa League qualification. In 2021, he joined Finn Harps FC, scoring two goals in 33 matches.
