Manchester City are reportedly considering a loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz as cover for the injured Rodri in the middle of the park.

It’s been a difficult season for Man City, who have surely fallen out of contention for the Premier League title after a poor run of form since Rodri picked up what is likely to be a season-ending injury.

It now surely makes sense for Pep Guardiola and co. to strengthen in midfield before the end of the month, and Luiz could be a good option after he previously impressed in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

“Talks over a move have progressed well and there is confidence that the deal will happen” – which big name is closing in on joining Arsenal?

The Brazil international’s fine form at Villa Park earned him a big move to Juve in the summer, though he’s since failed to establish himself with the Serie A giants.

According to the Athletic, this is now leading City to consider Luiz as a loan target, though he’s not the only player they’re considering to help them replace Rodri in midfield.

Luiz is surely good enough to be playing more regularly for a top club, so it’s a bit of a surprise to see him struggling and having to settle for warming the bench at Juventus.

Still, perhaps we’ll see the 26-year-old heading back to English football soon, as he’s also recently been linked with Manchester United.

A report from Gazzetta dello Sport recently claimed that the Red Devils had been offered the chance to sign Luiz, though this has so far not progressed.

Man Utd could surely do with strengthening in midfield, though, with Luiz clearly an upgrade on ageing star Casemiro, and perhaps a useful alternative to Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo as well.

Still, City would surely be the more tempting option than United right now, with Ruben Amorim’s struggling side slumped all the way down in 13th in the Premier League table, closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
