A move away from Marcus Rashford would suit him, believes Roy Keane, after the English striker’s future was thrown into greater doubt as he was left out of Manchester United‘s squad to face Man City.

Rashford struggled in midweek against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League and Amorim made the bold call to leave his £325,000-a-week attacker out entirely for the trip to play Pep Guardiola‘s City side.

For Keane, who has been a notable critic of Rashford, there is a growing sense that an exit could suit all parties.

‘Quality is not enough,’ he told Sky Sports

‘Quality in terms of picking moments in a game and recently [he’s] not been that great. It might be an end but let’s not be writing him off he’s just been left out the squad. It doesn’t look good for him.

‘I feel a move for Marcus is definitely going to suit the plater, a new challenge.

‘Whatever your talent at a big club, if your attitude is not quite right, and his certainly hasn’t been recently, I think it’s probably good to part ways.’

Question marks will be asked of Amorim’s selection call, which also saw Alejandro Garnacho snubbed from the squad, should United not get a positive result away to City.

But the bold decision by United’s head coach impressed Keane, who believes his ruthless edge has ‘put a marker down’ for the rest of the squad.

‘It will be a big talking point because they’ve been involved in all the other games,’ he said of the Rashford/Garnacho decision. 

‘He’s obviously seen something he doesn’t like and he’s had a look at it. 

‘They have probably had a clean slate since he came in but he doesn’t like what he sees with their on-field performances, he’s on about their attitude in terms of training, travel, the way they speak to staff, work-rate etc.
