West Ham reveal extent of Michail Antonio injuries from car crash

West Ham United have revealed that Michail Antonio required surgery on a fractured limb after he was involved in a car crash on Saturday afternoon.

The east London outfit confirmed on the day of the incident that Antonio had been involved in a “road traffic accident”. Subsequent images emerged on social media which appeared to show the severe damage done to the striker’s Ferrari GTC4Lusso, as reported by The Times.

An hour after news of the accident broke, West Ham mercifully revealed that Antonio was “conscious and communicating” while recuperating in hospital.

On Sunday afternoon, the club provided another update on the health of the Jamaica international who had “undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture”. A club statement read: “Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

“Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the football family at large for the overwhelming support shown since yesterday’s news, as well as extending a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery.

“The club will provide further updates when appropriate.”

Antonio will obviously not be involved in West Ham’s Premier League clash with fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night at the London Stadium.
