Early Goal Enough to Down Soccer on Senior Night

Kansas

TEMPE – Sun Devil Soccer closed out the regular season on Friday night with a 1-0 loss to Arizona In Territorial Cup action at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.

Arizona State (8-7-3, 3-7-1 Big 12) conceded the game’s only goal in the 11th minute as a shot from Arizona’s (11-5-2, 6-4-1) Nicole Dallin was saved by Pauline Nelles, but the rebound found Narissa Fults who finished for the Wildcats.

ASU nearly tied the game in the 18th minute as Cameron Valladares put a shot off the cross bar and then in the 29th minute, Kierra Blundell headed a cross from Lucy Johnson on net that was turned away by the visiting keeper.

The Sun Devils continued to apply pressure in the second half, with two chances from Enasia Colon just missing early in the half. Blundell added another attempt from distance late in the game but was denied again.

ASU ended the evening with 12 total shots but only three on goal. They allowed the visiting side to attempt 13 shots, with Nelles making four saves to keep the team within a goal of equalizing.

With the result, the Sun Devils finished their first season in the Big 12 tied for 10th in the table with Baylor. That means ASU will open the 2024 Big 12 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship on Wednesday…
