Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed Under-18 manager Jack Wilshere has a decision to make on his future as he enters into talks with Norwich City.
Wilshere called time on his playing career in the summer of 2022 and took up a role in Arsenal’s academy – a position which he admitted helped him rediscover his love for football after a career blighted by serious injuries.
It was first revealed by The Pink Un that Wilshere has been lined up for a move to Norwich’s first-team coaching staff thanks to his relationship with the Canaries’ sporting director Ben Knapper, who worked in Arsenal’s loan department until October 2023.
A move is expected to be finalised imminently, although Arteta suggested Wilshere’s final decision has not yet been made.
“He’s been phenomenal,” Arteta told the media of Wilshere’s work with the academy. “He’s been great.
“Everyone knows about the career, about his character and he’s a really special personality. His attachments to the football club are unique. He has this aura and charisma and a way of connecting with people.
“He’s been an inspiration for the kids because of his history, what he did and the manner that he did it. What happens next is his decision.”
Wilshere’s Arsenal reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in his first season and finished third in the Under-18 Premier League South last year.
