NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer topped RV Kentucky 3-1 on Sunday night to hand the Wildcats their second loss of the year. Courtney Jones, Addie Porter and Sydney Watts scored as Vandy improved 21-16-2 all-time against Kentucky.

The match began with Kentucky scoring just 29 seconds into play. A foul by the Commodores in the box led to a penalty kick from Makala Woods, who connected.

Vanderbilt (7-2-5, 2-2-3) quickly responded with a service from Caroline Betts cross field to Rachel Deresky. Deresky tapped it towards the goal but the ball hit off the post, landing right to Jones, who tapped it in for the equalizer.

Out of halftime, Watts regained possession for the Commodores to set up an offensive attack. The sophomore dished to Betts who took her defender one on one in the final third to serve to Watts from the top of box. Betts found Watt’s for the header score to put the Dores up 2-1.

Vandy’s final goal came from Porter just one minute after the Commodore’s go-ahead score. Porter sliced and diced her defender for a top-shelf finish. Porter has now scored in the last two matches.

Vanderbilt keeper Sara Wojdelko registered five saves, posting 10 saves in the last two matches.

Kentucky (10-2-3, 2-2-3) entered the match only giving up eight goals this year. Vandy’s three are the most given up by the Wildcats in a single game. Kentucky posted nine shots, six on target only able to connect once. Keeper Marz Josephson made three stops.

Vandy heads to Florida to face the Gators on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. CT. The match will be seen on SEC Network+.
