Griffith’s Game Winner Lifts First-Place No. 9 Terps To 3-2 Win

SEATTLE – Colin Griffith’s go-ahead score in the 74th minute led No. 9 Maryland men’s soccer to a 3-2 victory over Washington on Friday at Husky Soccer Stadium. Maryland advanced to 7-1-4 overall and 5-0-1 in Big Ten play. The win for the Terps also marked head coach Sasho Cirovski‘s 462nd career win, which ties him for the most wins for an active coach in Division I

The Terps sit at first in the conference and have extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games. The last time Maryland was unbeaten through double-digit games was in 2017 when they started the season with a 13-game unbeaten run (10-0-3). 

Griffith’s score was his team-leading sixth of the season. All his goals have come in the last seven games, and he has four consecutive games with a score. The last Terp with a scoring streak as long as Griffith was Ben Bende, who scored in five straight games in 2021. Max Rogers earned the assist, giving the Yale transfer seven team-leading assists. 


 

Washington took the lead early in the second half, as Cooper Brunell finished a deflected cross by Laurin Mack to make it a 2-1 scoreline.
