CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday (Oct. 8) that Virginia goalkeeper Joey Batrouni has been named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the week following a brilliant performance in a 2-1 victory over No. 19 Virginia Tech.
The Cavalier goalkeeper was busy between the posts making a season-high 11 saves in a 2-1 victory over Virginia Tech. The performance proved crucial to snapping a six-game winless streak for the Cavaliers as Batrouni fended off a pair of chances down the stretch to seal the victory.
Batrouni’s 11 saves are the fourth-highest single-game total in NCAA Division I for the 2024 season and he is one of 11 players to make 11 or more saves in a single game this season. The single-game total ranks first in the ACC.
Including a three-save performance against UNCG (Oct. 1) Batrouni totaled 13 saves with a save-percentage of .813. He shares the honor with Logan Erb of NC State who recorded five saves in a scoreless draw at No. 2 Stanford.
