Men’s Soccer Comeback Falls Short at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Rutgers men’s soccer (4-6-2, 1-3-1 B1G) fell to Penn State (5-5-2, 2-2-2 B1G), 2-1, in the final moments of Monday’s match.  

The Nittany Lions struck first in the 50th minute but Nick Collins answered just 15 minutes later with the first score of his career to even it up.  

However, in the final 30 seconds of the game, PSU cashed in on a penalty shot to secure the win.

Game Notes  

  • Collins’ goal is the first of his career. He also recorded an assist in 2023 against Michigan State (Sept. 17) and now has three total points.  
  • Rutgers and Penn State tied in shots (14-14), shots on goal (4-4) and corners (6-6). 
  • Ciaran Dalton made two saves in net, bringing his season total to 51 stops.  
  • Freshman Scott Godden started his 11th outing while Arnar Adalsteinsson his 10th for the Scarlet Knights.  
  • Other rookies in Matty Lynch, Thomas Angelone, Kristófer Arnarsson, Illia Tyrkus and Dylan Carlson also got on the pitch.  

Looking Ahead   

Rutgers will return home to Yurcak Field to host Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. for a Scarlet Out. All fans are encouraged to wear red!
