TEMPE – Sun Devil Soccer had few answers in a 4-1 loss to Utah on Friday night in Big 12 action at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Arizona State (7-3-3, 2-3-1 Big 12) fell behind in the 10th minute when Taliana Kaufusi added to her conference lead with her 10th goal of the season, giving Utah (5-4-4, 2-2-2 Big 12) the early advantage.
Cameron Valladares pulled the Sun Devils level with a strike from the top of the penalty area, resulting in her sixth goal of the season in the 16th minute. Valladares stepped in front of a pass from a Utah defender to set herself up for the goal.
As the teams traded possession over the next 20 minutes, Utah broke through with a goal by Lilliah Blum in the 37th minute, giving the Utes a 2-1 lead entering halftime. They extended the lead in the 51st minute with a goal from Katie O’Kane, and then Katie Callaway finished the night with her tally in the 81st minute.
ASU finished the game with just six shots and only two on goal. Utah attempted 16 shots and put 11 on goal while holding a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Valladares and Addison Haws each had two shots for the Sun Devils. Enasia Colon had the team’s second shot on goal.
Pauline Nelles made seven saves in goal.
