Five Reasons to Attend: Virginia Tech vs. Florida State

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Women’s Soccer will welcome No. 6 Florida State for a matchup this Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. ET. The Hokies return to Blacksburg after a scoreless draw against Miami on Oct. 3 and will look to continue their success against their second Florida-based team in four days. With special promotions and exciting giveaways in store for fans, Hokie Nation won’t want to miss the contest. Here are five reasons to attend women’s soccer at Thompson Field this weekend.

1. Matchup Storylines – The contest against the sixth-ranked Seminoles will be the Hokies’ first ranked matchup of the season. While the Hokies lost the most recent matchup against Florida State, Tech comes into this game sitting fourth in the ACC rankings. The Hokies will look to get back in the win column against Florida State by facing a Seminoles team that most recently lost against fourth-ranked Wake Forest.
2. Fan Appreciation Day – Virginia Tech Women’s Soccer is celebrating Fan Appreciation Day during Sunday’s contest. The match, hosted by emcee Bailey Angle, will feature a variety of activities that recognize how important Hokie Nation is to the success of Tech sports.

3. Giveaway – Fans can enter for a chance to win women’s soccer team gear at the contest this Sunday. Early-arriving fans can also stop by the promotions table to grab a slice of pizza. Fans won’t want to miss this good time!
4. In-Conference Battle – The matchup will be the sixth of nine consecutive ACC matchups for the Hokies. After Thursday’s draw against Miami, the Hokies are 3-1-1 in conference play.
5. Players to Watch – A mix of both offensive and defensive players on the women’s soccer team has allowed the team to jump to an 8-3-2 record. Junior forward Taylor Price has dazzled at home, most recently tallying a hat trick in a 5-1 win against Louisville on Sept. 26. Price currently leads the team in points (10) and goals scored (4). Defensively, senior goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove has continued to shine, posting seven clean sheets over thirteen games. In her first two ACC games of the season, the Richmond, Virginia native posted back-to-back shutouts and earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Hargrove’s toughest test of the year will be against the Seminoles, a team that currently ranks second in the nation in scoring offense (3.4 goals/game).
