Arizona Victorious Over BYU on Senior Night

UCF

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Soccer had a statement 2-1 win under the Friday night lights in their senior night match up against BYU.

The Wildcats hit the field running tonight, getting a shot on goal off in the first five minutes from fifth-year Nicole Dallin. Not long after, freshman Narissa Fults scored on a short breakaway sprint in the 13th minute, giving the Cats the advantage. Down early in the game, the Cougars looked to even the score. BYU tallied six corner kicks and got six shots off – four on goal – during the half. Despite being out-shot 6-3, the Cats ended the first 45 up 1-0.

Just 35 seconds into the bottom half, junior Sami Baytosh found the back of the net with a shot off her head and an assist from senior Gianna Christiansen. With Arizona up 2-0, the rest of the half was nothing short of gritty play and determination from both teams. The Cats were able to hold off their aggressive opponents until BYU’s Erin Bailey in the 72nd minute.

Despite being out-shot 7-2 in the second half, Arizona kept the Cougars at bay and wrapped up the match with a 2-1 lead.

In total, goalkeeper Olivia Ramey saved eight shots on goal for a season total of 43.

The Cats will be back in action on the road next Thursday and Sunday against UCF and Houston.
