No. 18 Duke Hosts No. 16 SMU on Friday


DURHAM, N.C. – No. 18 Duke men’s soccer (4-2-2, 2-1-1 ACC) is set for a top 20 matchup on Friday evening at Koskinen Stadium hosting new ACC member No. 16 SMU (6-1-3, 2-1-0 ACC) at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACCN and marks the first meeting since 2019 against the two programs.
 
General public parking will be located at the Jogging Trail Lot on NC 751/Cameron Blvd. and will only accept prepaid parking passes from my.parking.duke.edu for $25. Chemistry Lot and Circuit Dr. Lots will accept prepaid parking passes and cash on site.
 
Tailgate parking is located in the Jogging Trail Lot, and 3001 Cameron Blvd. with prepaid parking passes only. Accessible parking, with a state-issued placard or plate requirement, will be located in the Science Dr. Garage at 3100 Cameron Blvd. with prepaid parking at $25.

Friday is also Pediatric Cancer Awareness Night at Koskinen Stadium, a night of remembrance in honor of Malia Jusczyk, who passed away at the age of 14 in June of 2023 after battling relapsed neuroblastoma. The two teams will wear t-shirts designed by Malia’s father, Glen, who was teammates with Duke head coach John Kerr (Worcester Wildfire, 1997).

 

MATCHUP NOTES

  • Duke and SMU meet for the ninth time in program history, with the Mustangs leading the all-time series record, 5-2-1.
  • The Blue Devils dropped the last meeting, 2-0, at Koskinen Stadium in 2019 and haven’t won against SMU since 1996.
  • Friday’s matchup will be the first between the two sides as conference opponents, as SMU joined Stanford and Cal in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.

 
BY THE NUMBERS
14 – Goals scored against Averett at Koskinen Stadium tied a program record for most goals scored in a single contest.
10 – Duke has won 10-plus contests in 10 of the 16 completed seasons under Kerr.
7 – Seven different Blue Devils registered their first career goals in 2024, including five against Averett.
3 – Graduate Adam Luckhurst tallied three goals against Averett netting his first career hat trick in his first game in Koskinen Stadium.
