Arizona Draws Against West Virginia 1-1

BYU

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona (7-3-2) battled to a 1-1 draw at home Sunday against West Virginia.

Facing off against the conference leading Mountaineers and coming off of a 2-0 win Thursday, the Cats had a hot afternoon battle lying ahead of them. Arizona controlled possession majority of the first half, totaling five shots and one shot on goal. In the 24th minute, the Mountaineers scored off of a corner kick into the box.

Heading into the second half down 0-1, the Cats were looking to even the playing field. After a goal kick from keeper Olivia Ramey sent the ball into West Virginia’s defensive zone in the 48th minute, senior Nicole Dallin was able to maneuver a ball into the back of the net off her left foot. The goal marks Dallin’s sixth of the season, and her first since Arizona’s match against Pacific in August.

The Cats and the Mountaineers spent the last 30 minutes battling for a one up that would secure them the win. After Arizona’s goal, the Cats matched West Virginia for five more shot attempts. Arizona out-shot their opponents 10-8, and Ramey tallied four saves throughout the match.

Arizona will be back in action Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. MST for their senior day game against Big 12 foe BYU.
