Soccer Bests Cincinnati in Big 12 Home Opener


Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Soccer beat Cincinnati 2-0 in its Big 12 home opener at Mulcahy Stadium. 

Going into Thursday’s match, the Cats were looking for their first conference game at home after three games on the road. Throughout the first half, the Cats dominated possession on the Bearcats end of the field. In the 21st minute Arizona’s Gianna Christiansen had a cross-field goal in the top-right corner. Just 30 seconds later, midfielder Nyota Katembo put one in the back of the net, putting the Wildcats up 2-0. In the first period, Arizona out-shot the Bearcats 5-3.

The Wildcats were able to hold off Cincinnati for the remaining 45 minutes of the game. Arizona did not allow any shots in the second half. The Cats got four shots off in the second half, out-shooting Cincinnati 9-3 for the game. 

Goalkeeper Olivia Ramey faced and saved two shots on goal throughout the entire game, bringing her save count to 29. 

Up next, the Cats will remain home to host West Virginia on Sunday, September 29 at 11:30 a.m. MST.
